Innova is the buffing machine for light and delicate leathers developed by Bergi S.p.A. As the name suggests, it is a real technological innovation destined to mark a turning point in the field of leather buffing. Three important features make this machine an absolute novelty: 1.The reduced diameter of buffing roller and holding roller. The data collected in decades of experience have highlighted that, the larger is the contact area between buffing roller and transport roller, the stronger will be the buffing action in that specific zone. Sometimes this is not an advantage. In fact, in case of small size leathers, thin and soft, a traditional buffing machine can cut the final exiting edge of the leather. To solve this problem, we have designed a specific buffing machine that we have called Innova. The diameters of the rollers have been dimensioned in order to reduce to the minimum the cutting of the edges of the leather, while keeping the highest buffing action. 2. Reduction of the distance between buffing roller and transport conveyor. Taking inspiration from the Selecta 45°, the frame of the new machine has been completely redesigned reducing by more than a half the distance that the leather has to cover to reach the transport conveyor. With this solution, we have avoided the overlapping of leathers while exiting from the machine. This improvement gives the possibility to process small leathers in continuous through-feed with the dedusting machine since the leathers come out perfectly flat. In this way, there is no need to keep one person between the buffing and the dedusting machine to manually set straight the overlapped edges. 3. Automatic adjustment of working thickness and holding blade. Nowadays the specialized workers are getting rare. Moreover, the majority of the tanneries work on two or more shifts stopping the machines as little as possible and changing the operator at every shift. To make easier the use of the buffing machine even for the less skilled operators, we have created a new system to adjust the thickness that is no longer manual but electrically controlled. A digital display has been positioned in front of the operator and, by means of two push-buttons, the operator can adjust the buffing action. Furthermore, this system automatically adjusts the position of the holding blade and the brush under the rubber transport roller. As the rubber roller wears out, the holding blade and the brush adjust automatically their position.
